...the next best thing
If you ain't got the money to drop on some CDJ's or turntables, Virtual DJ is the next best thing. I have this program on my comp that let's you record what you're doing (Camtasia Studio 5) on your screen, but I never used it. So, I figured I'd give it a try just for the hell of it.
I recorded a video of myself screwin and choppin "Let Me See It" by UGK. This is a live mix so don't expect anything extravagant, but it's just to show y'all what the program can do. I didn't do the whole zoom in thing, the program Camtasia did it by itself. And the audio and video are slightly out of sync, I used Windows Movie Maker to sync em up and the program wasn't cooperating (shitty program).
But check it out
oh, by the way, I used my keyboard for cue points, so that's why I don't click anything when I set or go to cues.

Re: Virtual Dj - Tips and Tricks
im going try to explain what I do. Okay, when a dj using turntables and scratches, he has the privilege of being able to use both hands (one for record, one for crossfader) unlike using virtual dj where all you have is a mouse. Well, to make up for your one hand handicap you can use the keyboard as well as the mouse.
I use cues for my bring backs. If I scratch something, I'll scratch it with the mouse and use my keyboard to go back to the cue. It's kind of hard to explain in words, but I do it in the video. You can see me setting the cues in audio analyzer thing at the top. I have my own keyboard shortcuts to help me. I set the numbers at the top of the keyboard to represent 9 cues, holding CTRL plus a number sets the cues, and ESC plays the record.
I'll try an example.
I'm scratching the word "Gettin". I'll set a cue #1 at the beginning of the word. Then scratch "Gettin", hit cue #1 to go back, and scratch "Gettin" again.
ummmm... I hope that helped.

Re: Virtual Dj - Tips and Tricks
say big dawg I got a question for you, in your vid into about 1.41 into it, how do you make the air-pitch sound effect, been trying to figure out that small detail for a minute.

it's called a flanger. In order to do it, you have to have the same song on both decks, and have them playing together (both at the same point in the song). Make sure there's a tiny delay in between the two which creates that effect like there's air in between them. If the songs are matched up together perfectly it'll just sound loud and distorted, but if there's that slight delay in time in between the songs, you'll be able to hear it and it'll make that sound effect.
That's the traditional way to do it and how I did it in the vid. However, there's effects on some cdj's, mixers and such which will make the sound for you. There's also plug-ins you can find that'll do it also if you're using a program. VDJ actually has one, but I didn't use it in the vid.

Re: Virtual Dj - Tips and Tricks
yea I knew about the "artificial" way with the cdj but the way you showed was the one I been trying to figure out that has more of the air sound instead of the flanger back & forth sound. Thanx again cuz, learned alot out of this thread.
